www.FloridaENT.com

If you've ever had the displeasure of dealing with sinus pressure and pain, you're probably well aware of how uncomfortable it can be. What you're also probably aware of is that your symptoms weren't alleviated by taking medication. Often times, sinus pressure can be treated by natural remedies.

Check out a few of them below.
  • Flush out your nasal passage using a netti pot or saline wash
  • Take a hot steamy shower or bath
  • Hydrate by drinking a lot of water throughout the day
  • Eat spicy foods such as mustard, horseradish, or wasabi
  • Use a humidifier
  • Apply warm compresses over your face
Although natural remedies can help, in some cases they simply might not. It's important to know when to visit your doctor. If you're experiencing a fever or your symptoms for last for a week or more, contact your doctor. You may be in need of antibiotics or other treatment.

Florida Ear Nose Throat and Facial Plastic Surgery has a Sinus and Facial Plastics Institute which is the first and only facility in central Florida that is dedicated to the complete medical care of the nose, whether it be cosmetic or functional. Foods That Help Fight Allergies

Florida Ear Nose Throat
Facial Plastic Surgery Center
877-EAR-NOSE
www.FloridaENT.com

Did you know there are some foods out there that could actually help sooth your seasonal allergies? If you're heading out to a Memorial Day barbecue this weekend and your allergies are acting up, look for one of the following foods so you can enjoy the celebration, too!

Omega-3
Omega-3 fatty acids contain EPA, which is a natural anti-inflammatory. Some common foods containing omega-3 are salmon, haddock, and flaxseed oil.

Spices
Spices such as tumeric and ginger have anti-inflammatory agents that can help ease your allergies. If you're hosting a BBQ this weekend, look for a chicken or steak marinade that includes ginger or tumeric!

Juice
Should you find yourself in need of allergy relief this Memorial Day weekend, try fruit juice. It contains antioxidents that will help reduce inflammation. However, be sure to read the label to ensure you're drinking real juice.

From all of us here at Florida Eat Nose Throat and Facial Plastic Surgery Center, we hope you have a safe Memorial Day weekend!

If you're suffering from allergies this spring or summer, we encourage you to make an appointment at Florida Ear Nose Throat right away. We offer allergy screening, allergy management and immunotherapy. To schedule an appoint, give us a call at (877) EAR-NOSE. For more information about our office, visit www.floridaent.com

Facial pain and pressure.
Pain and pressure in your face specifally in your cheeks and under your eyes is indication your sinuses are plugged and unable to drain. Another sign could be pain or pressure when you move your head back and forth.

Headache.
The pain, pressure, inflamation and tightening of your facial muscles can lead to headaches. Sinus-related headaches often times feel similiar to tension headaches.

One of the most common signs of a sinus infection is discolored (usually green or yellowish) mucus coming from your throat or nose.

Natural Remedies for Spring Allergies

Florida Ear Nose Throat
Facial Plastic Surgery Center
877-EAR-NOSE
www.FloridaENT.com

Springtime is finally here to stay. And although the newest season brings along budding flowers and warm temperatures, it also brings along dreaded springtime allergies. If you think the only way to manage your symptoms is by taking an antihistamine, think again! Try out a few of these natural remedies to help manage your symptoms.

Sweet honey.
If pollen has you sneezing and your eyes watering, stop by your local farmers market and pick up raw local honey. Whether you drop some into a hot cup of tea or eat it plain, aim for three to four tablespoons a day.

Sage.
Did you know sage is a natural antiseptic and astringent? If your throat is scratchy and irritated from your allergies, try soothing it by dropping dried or fresh sage in boiling water, letting it cool and then gargling.

Turn up the heat.
Spices only job isn't to give your food a kick. They can also be used to move mucus and break up fluid that may be causing congestion. If you're suffering from congestion this allergy season, be sure to add some hot sauce to your meals.

If these natural remedies don't work, it may be time to give Florida Ear Nose Throat and Facial Plastic Surgery Center a call. We can be reached by calling 877-EAR-NOSE. For more information on all of our services, visit www.floridaent.com.

Fact vs. Fiction: Rhinoplasty

Florida Ear Nose Throat
Facial Plastic Surgery Center
877-EAR-NOSE
www.FloridaENT.com

When it comes to facial plastic surgery, there are a lot of myths floating around out there. You might have heard that nose jobs can melt. Or perhaps you've heard Botox injections will leave you expressionless for life. We're here to break down whats fact and whats fiction when it comes to rhinoplasty!

Fact or Fiction: Can rhinoplasty affect your sense of smell?
This is a fact! However, loss of smell is only temporary following this procedure. It should be back to normal within 3-6 weeks.

Fact or Fiction: Can rhinoplasty affect my voice?
This is fact, as well. Although the changes are almost undetectable, it still can change.

Fact or Fiction: My nose will look different right away.
This is fiction. The nose you desire will not appear the way you envision it for up to a year following surgery.

Fact or Fiction: You have to reach skeletal maturity to receive rhinoplasty.
This is a fact. Skeletal maturity means that your bones are fully developed. This usually doesn't happen for females until about age 14-15 and age 15 at minimum for males.

If you have any questions about rhinoplasty, the team at Florida Ear Nose Throat and Facial Plastic Surgery is here to help you at anytime! To schedule an appointment, give us a call at 877-EAR-NOSE! For additonal information about our rhinoplasty services, visit www.floridaent.com.

www.FloridaENT.com

Food allergies are extremely common and affect most people at one point or another throughout their life. Allergies to food can come in a variety of ways and develop early or later in life. However, there are a couple of foods out there that rank higher than others when it comes to allergies. Check them out below.

Milk
One of the most common allergy (especially in children) is milk. Symptoms for a milk allergy include bloating, gas, skin rashes, and hives.

Peanuts
Another allergy that is extremely common is those to peanuts. Not only is this one of the most severe allergic reactions someone can experience, it can lead to throat closure. If you do in fact have an allergy to peanuts, be sure to read all labels carefully.

Shellfish
Did you know shellfish is the most common food allergy among adults? Shellfish allergies tend to surface later in life and can be extremely severe causing symptoms such as rashes, hives, and throat closure.

Eggs
Eggs are another food that many children are allergic to. However, most eventually grow out of it by age six or so. If you suspect your young child may have an allergy to eggs, it's in their best interest to get them tested right away.

Fish
The fifth and final most common food that people are allergic to is fish. Just like shellfish and peanuts, fish allergies can be severe. It's important to be on the lookout while dining out at restaurants as many use gelatin, oils and sauces that contain some sort of fish.

If you suspect that you or your child may be suffering from a good allergy, we encourage you to make an appointment at Florida Ear Nose Throat right away. We're sure at some point or another you've heard the word "botox" being thrown around but may be unsure of what it exactly is. Botox Cosmetic is a prescription drug that temporarily paralyzes muscles when injected.

Even though Botox was originally used for treating eye and muscle spasms, it's commonly used for cosmetic procedures. Some of those procedures include correcting forehead furrows, frown lines, crow's feet, and skin bands on the neck.

In addition to cosmetic procedures, Botox can be used to treat a number of medical probelms such as excessive sweating, overactive bladder, neck spasms, crossed eyes, chronic back and jaw pain, and migraines.

Tips To Handle Seasonal Allergies

Florida Ear Nose Throat
Facial Plastic Surgery Center

www.FloridaENT.com

Spring is (finally) here! We're sure throughout the fall and winter months you've daydreamed about warmer days, blooming flowers, and spending time outdoors. However, if you're one of the lucky individuals who suffers from seasonal allergies, you may be dreading the latest season change.

Luckily there are a few things you can do so you can spend your days outside without having to worry about allergies! Check them out below.

Don't let pollen win.
You will never be able to completely avoid pollen, however you can control it from taking a toll on you.  If you're heading outside, be sure to wear sunglasses and a hat. You should also try and stay indoors with the windows closed when levels are highest, which is usually midday and early afternoon. When you return indoors, taking a quick shower and changing your clothes will help keep irritations to a minimum.

Natural remedies.
If you aren't into medicine, there are a couple of natural remedies available to keep you comfortable when allergy season hits. Vitamin C is is widely available and acts as a natural antihistamine. Taking 500-1000 mg three times per day can help control allergy symptoms. Spices such as cayenne pepper and chili pepper can help to reduce nasal congestion and stuffiness.

Clear nasal passage.
One of the best ways to keep your nasal passage clear is by using a netti pot. The saline solution helps to rid your nostrils of any pollen or mold that may have made their way there and keep it moist. Neti pots can be purchased in your local drugstore.

If you're suffering from seasonal allergies, we can help! Contact Florida Ear Nose Throat and Facial Plastic Surgery today to learn more about our service by calling 877-EAR-NOSE. Additonal information can be found by visiting www.floridaent.com.

Tips To Handle Allergy Symptoms

Florida Ear Nose Throat
Facial Plastic Surgery Center
877-EAR-NOSE
www.FloridaENT.com

Are your allergy sypmtoms driving you crazy? After a while the constant sneezing, sniffling, runny nose and itchy eyes tend to take a toll. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to help reduce the irritation and annoyance that are allergy symptoms. Check them out below.

Eat an orange. Oranges are naturally rich in vitamin C, a natural antihistamine. Studies have also linked low levels of vitamin C with allergies. So, if your allergies are acting up, consider taking a vitamin C supplement.

Wash bedding regularly. Washing your bed sheets and blankets every week in hot water is the best way to kill microscopic dust mites that love to make your bed their home.

Keep pets out of your bedroom. We know this one can be extremely tough, however, keeping your bedroom free of pet dander is extremely important (as it can cause allergies). Let the barking and meowing ensue!

Double check dryer vent. Did you know for every load of laundry you do, 19 pounds of moisture has to go somewhere? Crazy! Be sure that your dryer vent is going outside and not to your garage or basement. If it's in fact indoors, this could lead to mould build-up in your home leading to more discomfort.

Clean and declutter. Upkeeping your home is an integral part in dealing with allergies. Be sure to vacuum every room of the house once per week, declutter, keep bathroom free of mold and don't use scented detergents or cleaners.

If you can't seem to get a handle on your allergies, give Dr. Wade Han a call at Florida Ear Nose Throat and Facial Plastic Suery Center. We would be more than happy to setup and appointment for you and have you feeling better in no time! To learn more, visit www.floridaent.com.

Sinusitis and Diet - Are They Connected?

Florida Ear Nose Throat
Facial Plastic Surgery Center

Sinusitis, the painful inflammation of the membranes lining the sinus cavities in the skull, affects more than 37 million people each year. If you're one of the individuals suffering from this issue, we're sure you're well aware of how uncomfortable it can be. Along with natural remedies, there are a few dietary measures you can take that may help alleviate pain before visiting the doctor. Check them out below.
  • Drinking fluids is a great way to keep your sinuses moist and aid in drainage. Aim to drink 8 to 10 cups of water daily. You can also incorporate broth, tea and juice.
  • Increasing the amount of vitamin C in your diet is another great way to help keep sinus pain to a minimum. Stock up on fruits and vegetables that are high in vitamin C like oranges, red and green bell peppers, kale, broccoli and strawberries.
  • Did you know there are some food out there that are natural decongestants? If your sinuses are acting up, it's a perfect time to include ginger, thyme, cumin, cloves or cinnamon into your meals!
  • Along with vitamin C, vitamin E has many anti-inflammatory benefits. Vitamin E can be found in many foods including dark leafy greens such as spinach, almonds, avocados, shellfish, squash and kiwi.
If none of your at-home remedies seem to be helping, we encourage you to give our Sinus & Facial Plastics Institute a call to schedule an appointment. Our facility, located in central Florida, is dedicated to the complete medical care of the nose, both cosmetic and functional. Natural Remedies for Sinus Pain

Florida Ear Nose Throat
Facial Plastic Surgery Center
877-EAR-NOSE
www.FloridaENT.com

If you've ever suffered from sinus pain or pressure, you're probably aware of how uncomfortable it can be. Pain around your eyes, forehead and teeth, post-nasal drip and coughing are just a few symptoms that you may have experienced if you are in fact suffering from sinus pain.

Luckily, there are a few remedies you can try out at home to help relieve symptoms before making an appointment to visit the doctor. Check them out below.

Clear nasal cavity.
One of the most popular remedies to help relieve sinus pain and pressure is to use a neti pot twice a day. The saline solution helps to flush your nasal passage of unwanted mucus and keep it moist. Neti pots can be purchased in your local drugstore.

Hydrate.
Drinking water throughout the day is something you should always be doing, however, when your sinuses are acting up it's extremely important. Staying hydrated will help keep your sinuses moist, thin out mucus and drain plugged sinuses. Try to avoid sugary drinks, caffeine and alcohol.

Pump up the steam.
Humidifiers and hot steamy showers can help break up mucus and temporarily help to relieve sinus pain and pressure. Try adding a bit of eucalyptus or menthol to the water to help keep your nasal passage clear.

Eat spicy.
This one may seem silly but simply adding a little bit of horseradish, wasabi or spicy mustard to your soup may help clear your sinuses right out!

Are you suffering from sinus pain? We encourage you to call the Sinus & Facial Plastic Institute. We're the first and only facility in central Florida that is dedicated to the complete medical care of the nose, both cosmetic and functional. "Dr. Han & Staff - It has taken me a while to find the words to describe how grateful I am. It is awe inspiring to me to be able to breathe through my nose. After years of sinus infections, constant headaches and restricted breathing, I don't know where to begin. Amazing results aside, you & your associates were the most kind, responsive and professional individuals I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I shopped around for doctors when considering rhinoplasty and your office was the first place I felt comfortable. I truly appreciated the time you took to talk with my parents and I before surgery to help ease our nerves. It was also reassuring to know you were just a phone call away during recovery. Now, roughly five months after surgery, I love my new nose. It not only works correctly, but looks perfect. I believe it is even better than before I broke it. My confidence level is finally growing back and I am no longer hyperconscious of angles when taking pictures. I can also say I have not had a sinus infection or sinus headache since before surgery. Happy does not even begin to describe how I feel about the results and experience. I am ecstatic, relieved, grateful, overwhelmed and joyous about every aspect of having surgery with you. I have already begun singing your praises to my friends and family. I cannot begin to thank you enough for everything you have done for me." -A.R.

Tips to Stay Healthy During Winter

Florida Ear Nose Throat
Facial Plastic Surgery Center
877-EAR-NOSE
www.FloridaENT.com

While the winter weather for us Floridians isn't nearly as brutal as our friends up north, we still have to take precaution to prevent getting sick throughout the cooler months. Check out a few tips below on how you can stay happy and healthy this winter.

Stay hydrated.
Are you drinking enough water throughout the day? Staying hydrated is an extremely important part of staying healthy. Consider carrying a refillable water bottle with you daily.

Consume a healthy diet.
Another great way to stay healthy is by consuming a healthy and balanced diet. Be sure to get in your fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins!

Exercise daily.
One of the best parts about living in Florida is that the weather is almost always perfect to get outdoors for some exercise. Whether you choose to take a quick walk, run, jog or bike ride, get your 15-30 minutes of exercise in daily.

Keep stress to a minimum.
Although this one isn't always easy, stress can take a toll on your health. Keep stress to a minimum by partaking in activities you enjoy and spending quality time with loved ones.

Get the right amount of sleep.
Are you getting at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep per night? We hope so! Sleep is an integral part of staying healthy and fighting any illness.

Keep your hands clean.
This one we're sure you hear all the time, however, clean hands are a huge part of staying healthy and washing away bacteria and viruses. Whether you're at work, school or out running errands, be sure to always wash your hands a few times throughout the day and consider carrying hand sanitizer with you if you are unable to access soap and water.

We hope those tips help keep away the colds this winter! For more information about Florida Ear Nose Throat and Facial Plastic Surgery, please visit www.floridaent.com.

Relieving Winter Congestion

Florida Ear Nose Throat
Facial Plastic Surgery Center
877-EAR-NOSE
www.FloridaENT.com

From sinus infections and runny noses, to colds and the flu, winter is well known for taking a toll on health. Don't let winter illnesses get you down! There are several ways to get relief that will have you feeling better in no time!

Pump up the steam.
If your sinuses and nose are plugged, head for the shower! The steam from a hot shower can help alleviate congestion.

Know your nose.
If you find that the inside of your nose is dry and causing you discomfort, it's time to moisten and flush out your nostrils. To do so, you can purchase saline spray and unscented alcohol free body lotion and apply a little bit into your nostrils to loosen things up. Another way to relieve your symptoms is by purchasing a neti pot and doing a complete flush!

Snooze this way.
Did you know gravity can help with decongesting? It's true! Sleeping with your nose elevated above your heart will allow decongestion to happen on it's own. Time to fix those pillows!

Hydrate day and night.

Simply put, hearing loss is the sudden or gradual decrease in hearing. Did you know hearing loss can be temporary, permanent, mild, severe, reversible and can affect one or both ears? If you're suffering from hearing loss, you're not the only one. Hearing loss affects up to 25% of individuals between the age of 65 and 75 and up to 50% of people over the age of 75.

Although the most common cause of hearing loss is age, there are some other causes as well. They include:
  • Chronic exposure to loud noise
  • Wax buildup in one or both ears
  • Runs in the family
  • Fluid buildup caused by ear infections
  • Object stuck in the ear canal
  • Ototoxic medication
