If you've ever had the displeasure of dealing with sinus pressure and pain, you're probably well aware of how uncomfortable it can be. What you're also probably aware of is that your symptoms weren't alleviated by taking medication. Often times, sinus pressure can be treated by natural remedies.

Check out a few of them below.
  • Flush out your nasal passage using a netti pot or saline wash
  • Take a hot steamy shower or bath
  • Hydrate by drinking a lot of water throughout the day
  • Eat spicy foods such as mustard, horseradish, or wasabi
  • Use a humidifier
  • Apply warm compresses over your face
Although natural remedies can help, in some cases they simply might not. It's important to know when to visit your doctor. If you're experiencing a fever or your symptoms for last for a week or more, contact your doctor. You may be in need of antibiotics or other treatment.

Sinusitis, the painful inflammation of the membranes lining the sinus cavities in the skull, affects more than 37 million people each year. If you're one of the individuals suffering from this issue, we're sure you're well aware of how uncomfortable it can be. Along with natural remedies, there are a few dietary measures you can take that may help alleviate pain before visiting the doctor. Check them out below.
  • Drinking fluids is a great way to keep your sinuses moist and aid in drainage. Aim to drink 8 to 10 cups of water daily. You can also incorporate broth, tea and juice.
  • Increasing the amount of vitamin C in your diet is another great way to help keep sinus pain to a minimum. Stock up on fruits and vegetables that are high in vitamin C like oranges, red and green bell peppers, kale, broccoli and strawberries.
  • Did you know there are some food out there that are natural decongestants? If your sinuses are acting up, it's a perfect time to include ginger, thyme, cumin, cloves or cinnamon into your meals!
  • Along with vitamin C, vitamin E has many anti-inflammatory benefits. Vitamin E can be found in many foods including dark leafy greens such as spinach, almonds, avocados, shellfish, squash and kiwi.
If none of your at-home remedies seem to be helping, we encourage you to give our Sinus & Facial Plastics Institute a call to schedule an appointment. Our facility, located in central Florida, is dedicated to the complete medical care of the nose, both cosmetic and functional. If you've ever suffered from sinus pain or pressure, you're probably aware of how uncomfortable it can be. Pain around your eyes, forehead and teeth, post-nasal drip and coughing are just a few symptoms that you may have experienced if you are in fact suffering from sinus pain.

Luckily, there are a few remedies you can try out at home to help relieve symptoms before making an appointment to visit the doctor. Check them out below.

Clear nasal cavity.
One of the most popular remedies to help relieve sinus pain and pressure is to use a neti pot twice a day. The saline solution helps to flush your nasal passage of unwanted mucus and keep it moist. Neti pots can be purchased in your local drugstore.

Hydrate.
Drinking water throughout the day is something you should always be doing, however, when your sinuses are acting up it's extremely important. Staying hydrated will help keep your sinuses moist, thin out mucus and drain plugged sinuses. Try to avoid sugary drinks, caffeine and alcohol.

Pump up the steam.
Humidifiers and hot steamy showers can help break up mucus and temporarily help to relieve sinus pain and pressure. Try adding a bit of eucalyptus or menthol to the water to help keep your nasal passage clear.

Eat spicy.
This one may seem silly but simply adding a little bit of horseradish, wasabi or spicy mustard to your soup may help clear your sinuses right out!
