Sinusitis, the painful inflammation of the membranes lining the sinus cavities in the skull, affects more than 37 million people each year. If you're one of the individuals suffering from this issue, we're sure you're well aware of how uncomfortable it can be. Along with natural remedies, there are a few dietary measures you can take that may help alleviate pain before visiting the doctor. Check them out below.
  • Drinking fluids is a great way to keep your sinuses moist and aid in drainage. Aim to drink 8 to 10 cups of water daily. You can also incorporate broth, tea and juice.
  • Increasing the amount of vitamin C in your diet is another great way to help keep sinus pain to a minimum. Stock up on fruits and vegetables that are high in vitamin C like oranges, red and green bell peppers, kale, broccoli and strawberries.
  • Did you know there are some food out there that are natural decongestants? If your sinuses are acting up, it's a perfect time to include ginger, thyme, cumin, cloves or cinnamon into your meals!
  • Along with vitamin C, vitamin E has many anti-inflammatory benefits. Vitamin E can be found in many foods including dark leafy greens such as spinach, almonds, avocados, shellfish, squash and kiwi.
If none of your at-home remedies seem to be helping, we encourage you to give our Sinus & Facial Plastics Institute a call to schedule an appointment.
