5 Remedies to Treat Dry Nose

Experiencing dry nose? While dry nose isn’t an immediate cause for concern, it is an uncomfortable situation. It can lead to health risks if left untreated, but there are ways you can remedy the problem quickly and effectively.

Here are five remedies you can use to treat dry nose:

1. Petroleum Jelly

Take a small amount of petroleum jelly on your finger and rub the lining inside your nose. Petroleum jelly isn’t harmful to your body in small amounts, and it helps moisturize your nose and prevent dryness over time.

2. Nasal Spray

You can purchase nasal sprays over the counter at your local pharmacy as they are great for helping moisturize a dry nose. Look for saline sprays to help remove allergens and pollutants from your noise while also keeping it from drying up.

3. Steam

Boil some water or take a hot shower or bath to get some steam inside of your nose. The steam can help moisturize the nose, and it can also help drain some of the pollutants out of your nose to keep you from experiencing more problems.

4. Damp Wipes

Use dampened facial tissues or wipes to clean along the lining of the nostrils where irritation typically occurs. If your nose feels dry and the area is sensitive, try using baby wipes as they can help provide long-lasting effects without causing over-drying.

5. Humidifier

Use a humidifier while you are sleeping to increase the humidity in the room. This can help with clearing the nasal passages and remedying the dryness. Be sure to put your humidifier in a place that humidifies the whole room and avoids furniture.

If you’re dealing with dry nose and want to speak with one of our professionals, schedule an appointment today.

You may also try using coconut oil, olive oil, sesame oil, or vitamin E oil to help deal with the dry nose. Should none of these options work, gives us a call.

Everyone who has ever had a sinus infection knows that sinus pressure and nasal congestion are two of the post irritating symptoms - sometimes even unbearable. When the pain worsens in morning and night, you want nothing more than to reach for the medicine cabinet. While we do believe in the benefits of anti-inflammatories and antibiotics, we have a few natural methods that will help cure you as well:

Humidity
What blocks your sinus drainage and traps viruses more than anything else is the dry, thick mucus in your nose. Increase your exposure to humidity can thin out the mucus and get things moving again. Try using a humidifier and taking steamy showers. A cup of hot tea or soup can help too.

Saline
The best way to cleanse the nose and sinuses and relieve sinus pain is saline. Purchase an over-the-counter saline nasal spray to combat nasal irritation - no medicine necessary.

Hot and cold compress

Reclining your head and placing a hot washcloth across your sinuses can help warm the nasal passages and loosen secretions. Then, place a cold towel over your sinuses for pain relief. Start by placing the hot towel across your sinuses for about three minutes. Then switch to the cool cloth for about 30 seconds. Alternate several times throughout the day.

Deep breathing
Relaxation and deep breathing techniques are known to effectively relieve sinus pain. Why, you may ask? Because these practices rely on the mind’s ability to influence pain perception, often associated with sinus pressure. Yoga, meditation, and hypnotherapy are all great options.

If these natural remedies just aren’t cutting it and the pain worsens, we encourage you to give our Sinus & Facial Plastics Institute a call to schedule an appointment. Our facility, located in central Florida, is dedicated to the complete medical care of the nose, both cosmetic and functional. If you've ever suffered from sinus pain or pressure, you're probably aware of how uncomfortable it can be. Pain around your eyes, forehead and teeth, post-nasal drip and coughing are just a few symptoms that you may have experienced if you are in fact suffering from sinus pain.

Luckily, there are a few remedies you can try out at home to help relieve symptoms before making an appointment to visit the doctor. Check them out below.

Clear nasal cavity.
One of the most popular remedies to help relieve sinus pain and pressure is to use a neti pot twice a day. The saline solution helps to flush your nasal passage of unwanted mucus and keep it moist. Neti pots can be purchased in your local drugstore.

Hydrate.
Drinking water throughout the day is something you should always be doing, however, when your sinuses are acting up it's extremely important. Staying hydrated will help keep your sinuses moist, thin out mucus and drain plugged sinuses. Try to avoid sugary drinks, caffeine and alcohol.

Pump up the steam.
Humidifiers and hot steamy showers can help break up mucus and temporarily help to relieve sinus pain and pressure. Try adding a bit of eucalyptus or menthol to the water to help keep your nasal passage clear.

Eat spicy.
This one may seem silly but simply adding a little bit of horseradish, wasabi or spicy mustard to your soup may help clear your sinuses right out!
